The girls ran the second race in the steps of Hercules at the site of the ancient games in Olympia. Who won? You’ll have to watch to find out!

In traditional fashion, the winners were crowned with a laurel wreath in celebration of their victory in the Olympic stadium.

Our visits today continued in the area around Argolis. We visited a couple of archeological sites in the area around Mycenae, including the Lion Gate, the Cyclopedean Walls, the Palace, and tomb of Agamemnon. Students also braved the dark and walked to the bottom of the ancient sistern, where we took a moment to blog. Did I mention it was in the dark?

Kostas, a high school dance and gymnastics teacher in Olympia, described the traditional attire of a female Greek folk dancer to the group in addition to teaching them six different dances. It’s always fun to see the students get a bit out of their comfort zone. As the video demonstrates, they finally got to say “Ooohpa!” I’m told several of them have been waiting days to say it.

An afternoon spent in the Ancient city of Delphi provides numerous choices for leisure. You can always visit the shops and cafes within the town proper. Those students with a slightly more adventurous streak decided to hike with Tim in the mountain above the town. Slightly winded, though no worse for wear, they share their experience at the summit.

Greece is the number three exporter of olives in the world. These tree-grown tasties can be found as an appetizer or in a salad at most any meal. Needless to say, Greek olives are a treat. The only problem is that they should, you know, be prepared before eating. Manny, Claci, and Natalie demonstrate why they should not be eaten directly from the tree in our sixth videoblog.
